With the financial situation climate the way that it is today, many people are trying to cut corners and to save money any way that they can. For many women, this means cutting outnot using the beauty salon, and cutting and dying their own hair at home instead. It sounds simple enough, doesn’t it? You simply purchase a box of hair dye at your local pharmacy, take it home, and follow the directions. Then you’ll have the hair color that you want without having to pay for the price of having it professionally done. But dying your hair at home isn’t as easy as all that, and it can wind you up in a ton lot of hair trouble.

Why It’s Bad

There are a number of reasons why coloring your hair in the comfort of your own home is a bad idea. Imagine a bride skimping on going to a salon only to have her hair ruined for her big day. Big mistake. Bridal Services offered by a quality salon is the only way to go. To start with, it’s important to remember that you’re dealing with chemicals. The chemicals that are used to dye your hair with can easily dye other things, and more than one woman has discovered that she has accidentally dyed the back of her couch red simply from sitting on it when she was waiting for the color to set.

While it’s fairly easy to avoid getting making a mess on of things in your home, it’s much harder to get the color that you want unless you’re a professional, it’s much harder to get the color that you want. Most women make the mistake of looking at the hair color of the woman on the front of the hair dye box and assuming that it is the color that is inside of the box. This is a very big mistake. Every woman’s hair is pigmented differently, so the dye will work differently on your hair than it would on your friend’s hair. If you are going to dye your hair at home, then make sure that you read the back of the box to look at the comparison photos before purchasing the box.

It’s also not a good idea to believe the boxes that tell you that you can easily do highlights in your home. Highlights are something that should be done only by a professional hair stylist. And if your hair is permed, or damaged, or dry, then it is also not a good idea for you to dye your own hair.

When It’s Okay

There are a few instances when dying your hair in your home is considered acceptable. The first is when you’re just trying to cover up a little gray. We all get gray hairs as we age, and it’s easy to cover them up with the right hair dye. Make sure, however, that you are matching the color of dye you use with your own color. It is also okay to dye your hair as long as you’re only going two to three shades lighter or darker. Anything deeper indicates a drastic change and should be done in a beauty salon by a trained technician.
